SoShi's Pre-debut

The members were professionally trained primarily in singing and dancing, while some members were also selected to be trained in acting and modeling. Many of the members already had made names for themselves in the Korean entertainment industry through their participation in magazine ads, television commercials, and small television appearances. For nearly two years, Korean websites speculated about which of the female SM Entertainment trainees would be placed into the group. Before the official release of the group name, Girls’ Generation, it was rumored that the group would be named “Super Girls” after their so-called counterpart, Super Junior. Read their pre-debut roster history >>here<<

2007: Debut and first album

In July 2007, Girls’ Generation had their first performance on Inkigayo. The song the girls performed was called “Into the New World” (Korean: 다시 만난 세계), which became their first single. A show documenting the girls’ debut titled “M.Net’s Girls Go To School” was filmed during this time. This documentary helped the girls appeal to the Korean audience as they rose to controversy.

In August 2007, the single “Into the New World” was released. This single included two other songs, “Beginning” and “Perfect for You” (Korean: 소원), later the song renamed to “Honey” for their self-titled debut album Girls’ Generation. An instrumental of “Into the New World” was also included.

The group began promoting the single soon after its release. Girls’ Generation performed their single on SBS’s Inkigayo, MBC’s Show! Music Core, and on KBS’s Music Bank.

After a short break, the group’s first full album was released in late autumn 2007, with the lead single “Girls’ Generation” (Korean: 소녀시대), a cover of Lee Seung-Chul (Korean: 이승철)’s hit. Promotion for the single started in early November. Marked by dance routines and vocals, “Girls’ Generation” was a hit for the group, and the album has sold 121,143 copies to date, placing 8th in the year-end charts. In early 2008, Girls’ Generation began promoting their second single, “Kissing You“. The music video featured Donghae from Super Junior. This song achieved the #1 spot in the three main TV music rankings—SBS Inkigayo, M.net M.Countdown! and KBS Music Bank.

In March 2008, the album was re-released and re-titled Baby Baby. A third single, “Baby Baby“, was used to promote the album. A digital EP featuring Jessica, Tiffany, and Seohyun was released on April 2008, titled Roommate. The single from the mini-album is “Oppa Nappa” (“Korean: 오빠 나빠”, literally “Bad Brother”, although contextually it refers to an older male friend).

Girls’ Generation, along with fellow artists such as BoA, TVXQ, Super Junior, CSJH the Grace, Zhang Liyin, SHINee and other SM artists participated in SM Town Live ‘08. The tour expanded its route to South Korea, Thailand, and China.

2008–2009: Other activities, return with mini-albums

It was announced in autumn 2008 that Girls’ Generation would be starring in a reality show on M.Net. Titled Factory Girl, the show chronicles the girls working as interns at fashion magazine “Elle“. The program began airing in early October. During their absence from the music scene, they appeared in many commercials for MapleStory and Mabinogi. It was then announced that the group’s first mini-album, Gee, would be released in January 2009. A teaser video was released in January 2009 and the first single “Gee” released soon after. Interest in the song rose after the digital release, topping Cyworld’s hourly music chart on the release day. The song also went #1 on all major digital music charts within two days.

The group began its album promotion on January 2009 on MBC Show! Music Core. They sang their new single, “Gee”, and “Him Nae/Way To Go“, another track from the Gee mini-album. This song is a remake of the song “Haptic Motion” that was used in cellphone advertisements (Samsung Anycall) and is a mix of bubblegum pop and punk rock. Meanwhile, questions were raised when the group did not appear on KBS’s Music Bank with “Gee”, even after winning #1 on the music chart show.

Gee” is the record holder for the longest-running #1 on music portal M.net (for 8 weeks), surpassing the previous record of 6 weeks set by the Wonder Girls‘ “Nobody”. They also broke the record on KBS’s music show Music Bank by being #1 for 9 consecutive weeks, previously set by Jewelry’s “One More Time, which had 7 wins. They won the award for best-selling song for the first half 2009 for “Gee“. Promotions for the song ended at the end of March.

After a short break, SM Entertainment announced that the girls would be back with a new single and showing a “Marine Girl” concept; the song, titled “Sowoneul Malhaebwa (Genie)” (Korean: “소원을 말해봐”, literally “Tell Me Your Wish”), the mini album was released digitally on June 22, 2009. The mini-album includes a duet between Jessica and Shinee member Onew called “One Year Later”.

On May 3, 2009. Girls Generation was starred in their new reality show “SNSD Horror Movie Factory“, with the premier episode receiving a viewership rating of 3.3%. The show was then cancelled after 6 episodes due to low ratings.

Since June 23, 2009, Girls’ Generation are starring Cable TV program called “SNSD’s Hello Baby” of KBS Joy, where they are taking care of a child and somewhat experience how motherhood is like. In that show, they take care of a boy name “Cho Kyungsan” (Korean: “조경산”), and each week they (or fathers, male guests who come out time to time) select “The Best Mom” and “the Worst Mom” among the members according to their work for the day. Despite the late-night time slot, the show received fairly high ratings and had been extended for several episodes. The show ended on November 17, 2009.

On June 26, 2009, Girls’ Generation’s comeback performance was recorded on KBS’s Music Bank. The group then had their return performances on MBC’s Music Core and SBS’s Inkigayo on June 27 and 28, 2009. Girls’ Generation’s 2nd mini-album Genie was released on June 29, 2009.

Their first win for their single “Tell Me Your wish (Genie)” was obtained at the July 10, 2009 episode of KBS Music Bank. Their second award was claimed at the July 12, 2009 episode of SBS Inkigayo. The group finished promotions for “Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)” in August 2009.

On October 7, Girls’ Generation, along with label-mate f(x) released a digital single named “Chocolate Love” for the 4th edition of the Blacklabel series LG CYON phone, “Chocolate”. Girls’ Generation sang the “Retro Pop Ver.” of the song while f(x) sang the “Electronic Pop Ver.”

In July, selected members, alongside selected Super Junior members, released the song “S.E.O.U.L. Song“. The music video was released as part of South Korea’s tourism initiative.

The group also announced its first solo tour, with two Korean dates in December and other Asian locations to follow. The Korean dates sold out in 3 minutes. The concert is titled “Into the New World” after the name of their debut single.

the pressure's on!

the second semester of this academic year is finally coming to a close.:-)

finally! summer's here! haha.:-)

however, before the start of all that fun, i [we] have to deal with the rigorous requirements of my [our] subjects...there're the papers, examinations, projects, practicals, and a whole bunch of stuff. and after all those stressful activities, there goes the finals' week.:-( (sigh)

here's a peek of the things i have to accomplish this coming weeks:

*a reflection paper on PSY1 about myself (min. of 3 pages)
*another reflection paper on [still] PSY1 about myself [again], but this time, it has something to do with the following item (min. of 5 pages, max. of 10)
*a project in PSY1 [once more]; a mask or a shirt that represents our selves (i love this one, i can't wait to get started:-))
*a lecture exam on MCB180 this coming Monday [please let me pass!]
*a short quiz on CHEM17 this coming Wednesday
*a nosebleeding practical exam on CHEM17 laboratory this Friday [i have to get started on memorizing chemical equations:-)]
*a recital for my PE2 class next Monday [one i am now regretting i took:-(]
*and a whole lot of examinations on my other subjects that includes; PHYS3, and MATH26

busy?!:-)

hope i can survive this!!!

i now realize that i have so much to do in so little time. i really have to get started on everything. however, i can't do that now because i'm here in front of the computer again.:-) promise, i'll get started once i'm finished.

anyways...i wanna include a picture on this post, but apparently, firefox wouldn't allow me to do so.:-( next time perhaps.

oh. by the way, super junior is coming here in the Philippines as part of their asian concert tour entitled Super Show2. don't know whether to be excited or not...:-) haha. i wanna see them perform but i don't wan to spend so much money just to see a concert. well, probably i would, if it's a David Archuleta concert. haha.X_x. my housemates are going to the concert and they're sitting on the VIP seats! :-) wish i could to...:-(

anyways, i wonder when SNSD will come to the Philippines. i really wonder. if they will have a concert here, i'll most probably watch that:-).

[blogging is really stress-relieving:-) it's really an escape from the loud world:-) maybe that's really the magic of internet.]

i need to mention this: i'm beginning to get addicted to tumblr.com!!!!! it's connected to my facebook account, my blogger account, and my twitter account. i'm loving posting and rebloging and scanning and collecting pictures!!!!! and i'm thanking my housemate for introducing me to tumblr. i'm quite enjoying trying something new.:-)

[that reminds me...i wonder what's happening to my friendster account?:-)]

oh well...bye guys! 'til then!:-)

he-who's-torn

we're planning to do something exciting this weekend...i just don't know where to go to; manila on sunday or tagaytay on saturday...(sigh) it's quite confusing [when you're me].

:-)

so there. a lot of [dreadful] things are happening. mainly caused by insignificant creatures who are dwelling in their world full of insecurities...i really don't understand why ever why these people were let to lurk the corners of the earth! and you call yourselves "humans." i'm feeling stressed just thinking about the lies and rumors they made and are making making just to make themselves feel better, to get what they want, and to achieve their selfish, ambitious goals.

what's up with those worthless excuses? were we not good enough for you? weren't we friends?

i mean, what have we done wrong to [you to] deserve such accusations and treatments? but i shouldn't think about them anymore, should i? i'm just hurting myself even more just thinking about them...(sigh) but if you're in my situation, you'd also probably be bothered...

last post for the night...

PHYSICS FAIR tomorrow...[excited!]

i'm still deciding whether to go to manila or tagaytay.

probably manila on Sunday, an opportunity for me to visit my recently deceased uncle. by the way, i wanna thank those people who extended their condolences to me and my family. I also extend mine to my uncle's family. [thanks for everything:-)]

got some studying to do...so...

see yah!:-)

Kpop me:-)

so i decided to post another blog just to relieve me from the things that are making me stressed out. (sigh). i'm tired. i mean really tired. physically and emotionally pumped out! haha.X_x.

looking back just a month ago, before i went back here in uplb, i told myself that i'd improve my study habits and focus more on the subjects that i feel i need to be exerting a bit more effort on. but now, hah! (whoala!) i can't quite fulfill the goal i previously set.:-( sad, really...

earlier this morning, i took my 2nd exam on my food microbiology 180 course. and man! it's almost as hard as the first one. i don't know why i find the exam hard. i reviewed the whole coverage the whole weekend (well most of it:-)), but still, the questions are quite confusing. we're supposed to memorize the characteristics of the microorganisms related to food and be able to identify them during the exam, however, they're just so confusing. (sigh) i just hope i'd pass. help me get through this semester!!!! please!!! i must be optimist! haha...:-) i know i can.

anyways...just recently, i'm beginning to be, (let's see, how shall i put this...?) "a fan???" of super junior. i've been introduced to super junior 2 semesters ago, i think. at first, i'm not taking any interest in them, not even their music. then as the days went on, i began thinking that their music and the songs they sing are really cool. haha.:-) i mean really.;-)

i'm beginning to "LIKE" suju and kpop now, and i'm blaming my three "kpop-and-suju-addicted-housemates" and my BOF-addiction for that! haha. just kidding. you know, somehow, sometimes, when i wanna relax i just listen to kpop; suju, snsd (girls' generation), and others, and i immediately feel alright. haha.:-) it's the new kind sound that's taking asia by storm!!!! haha.:-) lol...anywho, speaking of super junior, my favorite members would be ryeowook and siwon. they're cool! lol. while i really love soo young of snsd!! haha. she's totally hot!:-) oh, i also like yuna, also from the same group. i posted pictures of them here:

sooyoung:-)

yoona:-)

i would also like to mention that i love the gail and yi jeong's love team on BOF! haha. go korea! haha. lol. too bad their relationship had no definite closure on the story.:-( but still, i love their team-up!!!!

[by the way, i'm listening to kpop as i'm typing this:-)] see yah!

my first blog for this year!

I seem to have lost my post last time. can't find it.

oh well, i'll just have to post another one...

this is my first post for this year 2010!!!! yeah!:-)
i haven't been visible on the internet world since two weeks now. [or so i think i am:-)]...

but before i say anything, i wanna include here the christmas gift i wanted to have but didn't have for christmas...and it's:

david archuleta's christmas album! haha.:-)
anyway, christmas is already over unless some of you might wanna give me a super-late-christmas-present?:-)
just kidding.

anyways, it's been one week since the semester resumed after the christmas break. first week of university life for 2010 yet i'm already tired of all the things i have to do and accomplish.:-( quite sad really. exam week's coming and i'm afraid i'm not ready to take my exams yet...and then there're papers to work on, laboratory exercises to accomplish, org obligations to fulfill...sigh!

hmmm......

right now, i'm doing research on Salmonella. it's actually the report assigned to me in food microbiology. hope we [me and my partner, that is] do great! and i am also praying to get a good grade on my physics exam!( to do that, i'll have to study hard and logout on the net! haha.):-)

bye! have a lot of studying to do!:-)

bothersome.

i just have to get this out of my head!!!:-(

this something that makes me feel ikee inside.
this something that i think is inappropriate.
this something that is not right.
this something that makes me wonder.
this something that makes me worry.
this something that brings back the past. the past that i would love to forget.:-(
this something that irritates me.
this something that makes me watch. that makes me feel AWKWARD.:-(

i would not call this the thing i would not want to say 'til i know it is really it. it's really bothering me. and i mean really really bothering me. it's the feeling i felt years ago that made me want not to feel it again 'til i'm sure i'm ready to feel and face it like a man. it's completely complicated. (sigh).:-(

i feel that i don't have the right to be frustrated. but i am.

i really hope it's not the thing i think it is. i hope i can get this out of my head!

bye!:-(

he-who-doesn't-feel-like-it:-(

i don't know. i really really don't know.:-(

i hate it. i hate it so much.:-(

(sigh!):-(

i'm aiming to post two blogs today, since i haven't visited this account for a long while. hope i can achieve that.:-)

right. now that my semester has finally crossed the finish line, i can now be able to take a look back on the things i apparently took for granted. i hate the end. hate it so so much...don't know why i do. maybe i just hate feeling left alone without anyone to talk with. as my days here in elbi add up, i remember my dorm days.:-) and that feeling of loneliness every end of semester. that kind of feeling i experience while staring at those dormers outside the dormitory with their baggage, wating for their parents to pick them up.:-(

i'm planning to go home tomorrow. but i think i don't have the courage to do so yet. i also don't know why...i hate it...really.

this semester had been cruel. i mean, really cruel. for me at least...:-(
i had a lot of precious time wasted. really wasted. but i couldn't blame anyone but me. i took every moment for granted and never thought of the consequences of my previous actions.:-(
it's sad. really sad. my grades this semester is actually below average, compared to my grades last semester. i expect almost all of my grades this sem is on the line of 2 and/or lower. it's not because i don't study. i do. when i can and when i badly need to. maybe it's because i underestimated my subjects this semester. i expected them to be easy and passable but they're not. they're hard. and cruel. and hard. and really cruel. they make my nose bleed and my brain squeeze.

[(sigh!) and a big one.]

nevertheless, i'm expecting to pass all my courses this semester. only, not with the grades i expected myself to have, but with grades just enough to make me feel good about myself. one thing's for sure, i'll make it a point to give my studies more time next semester.:-)

songs for the day: "Somebody Out There" and "Waiting for Yesterday"
[both by David Archuleta:-)]
